And a throwback to our fave BLUE MAGIC!

So basically…

When I decided to try out the “no butters, no oils” 30-day experiment, I thought I was giving my hair a reset. And I did. Everything was going great until it stopped going great. The “No Butters, No Oils” method centers on hydrating hair with water and salon-quality conditioners rather than sealing it with heavy oils and butters. The idea is that raw oils and butters, such as shea, often coat the hair shaft, blocking true moisture and leading to buildup. By skipping them, the method aims to improve hydration, curl definition, and overall hair health.

Products I was recommended by the curl specialist include AG Boost Shampoo, AG Balance Conditioner, Innersense conditioner, Uncle Funky’s Curl Magic, Innersense I Create Hold, and Ouidad Antihumidity gel. I just want to reiterate that I really like the results of my wash and go’s when I do them but….

Yeeeeeah… this method left my coils crispy after about a year of doing it.

The idea is solid. I had beautiful wash and go’s that would blow in the wind and I also got a wealth of knowledge from my curl specialist. I loved it but completely removing oils and butters from my regimen proved to be detrimental to the coils. The combination of gel (botanical or otherwise) and a hooded dryer became too much. It could be that I went to hard with the frequency in which I was doing my hair.

The founders of this method weren’t exactly proponents of leave in conditioners and creams (at first) so water and gel were our bff’s for some time! Sure I should’ve stayed on schedule for my hair cuts, but the price for a cut that we aren’t 100% sure even gets rid of all the split ends was way too high.

The bulb really turned on when I noticed my hair color. Now I can’t really prove anything but my once really dark hair started turning a light shade of brown. I can tell mostly in the sun but it didn’t click until I heard Shelly V on Instagram mention her dark hair started getting lighter. Shelly V has been a VERY vocal about the damage this method can potentially cause to curly hair. She’s since cut off the damage and is restarting her healthy hair journey!

Wash & go’s sounded like the move, but my coils were PARCHED!

As I’m in my low maintenance moment (won’t call this an era because I’m actually aiming to amp up the glam) I needed something restorative. Something indulgent. A little richer and more buttery! lol Enter: My Black is Beautiful Hydrating Hair Cream. Made with coconut oil, honey, and turmeric, MBIB Hydrating Hair Cream melts into my freshly washed coils. The texture is giving decadent but lightweight The fragrance does lowkey give luxury. MBIB said they want us to smell high end around our scalps! LOL. Wash days these days goes as follows: cleanse, condition, MBIB Hydrating hair cream, Blue Magic hair grease on my ends and twist. My Blue Magic of choice has been the Super Sure Gro. It smells good and feels nice when used with the curl cream.

Bad news....I think.
I think MY BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL has gone out of business. On the Sally Beauty website it's getting increasingly harder to find this particular hydrating cream. There's no website and they haven't updated their social platforms in about 2 years. So as much as I'm raving about this hair cream, if I were you I'd look for a similar hair cream that may work just as well. Honestly I'm going to have to do the same soon!
